Feeder Scheduler Guide

Keep your bird feeders clean and well-stocked with weather-aware scheduling. Track maintenance, prevent disease, and attract more birds to your yard.

1. Weather-Aware Scheduling

Real-time weather data adjusts your maintenance schedule automatically.

The scheduler fetches current weather conditions for your location and adjusts cleaning and refilling schedules accordingly. Hot, humid weather means more frequent cleaning to prevent mold. Cold weather means birds need more food.

Weather Factors Considered

Temperature
Affects food spoilage rate
Humidity
Higher humidity = faster mold
Season
Auto-detected from location
Alerts
Rain, snow, freezing conditions

Location Selection

Use automatic geolocation or search for any city worldwide. The scheduler uses the appropriate units (°C/°F) based on your selected country.

2. Manage Your Inventory

Add all your feeders and track each one individually.

Add each of your bird feeders to the inventory. Give them custom nicknames like "Front Yard Tube Feeder" or "Deck Hummingbird Feeder" to easily identify them. Each feeder type has its own cleaning and refilling schedule.

Supported Feeder Types

Tube Feeder
Hopper Feeder
Platform Feeder
Suet Feeder
Hummingbird Feeder
Nyjer/Thistle
Window Feeder
Ground Feeder
Peanut Feeder
Fruit Feeder
Mealworm Feeder
Nectar Feeder

Health Score

Your overall feeder health score is calculated based on how well-maintained all your feeders are. Overdue feeders lower your score, prompting you to take action.

3. Track Maintenance

Log cleaning and refilling to keep schedules accurate.

When you clean or refill a feeder, mark it as done. The scheduler will calculate the next maintenance date based on the feeder type, current weather, and season. Overdue tasks are highlighted in red so you never miss critical maintenance.

Cleaning

Prevents mold, bacteria, and disease. Frequency varies by feeder type and weather.

Refilling

Keep feeders stocked. Birds depend on consistent food sources, especially in winter.

Maintenance History

All maintenance actions are logged with timestamps. Review your history in the right sidebar to see patterns and ensure consistent care.

4. Disease Prevention

Protect birds from common feeder-related diseases.

Dirty feeders can spread diseases among bird populations. The scheduler monitors conditions that increase disease risk and alerts you when extra precautions are needed. Learn about common diseases and how to prevent them.

Common Feeder Diseases

Salmonellosis
Bacterial infection from contaminated seed
Aspergillosis
Fungal infection from moldy seed
Avian Pox
Viral infection spread at crowded feeders
Trichomoniasis
Parasitic infection affecting finches and doves

Elevated Risk Alerts

When weather conditions increase disease risk, you'll see alerts with specific prevention tips. Click "View prevention tips" for detailed guidance.

5. Species Guide

Learn which birds each feeder type attracts.

Different feeder types attract different bird species. The Species Guide shows you which birds commonly visit each feeder type, helping you choose the right feeders for the birds you want to attract.

Common Visitors

Species that frequently use this feeder type and are likely to visit regularly.

Occasional Visitors

Species that may visit occasionally depending on season and local population.
