BirdTab ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our data practices for our Chrome extension.

1. Information We Collect

BirdTab collects and stores the following information:

• User preferences (birding region, audio autoplay settings, and mute state)
• Cached bird information and media URLs

This information is stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API.

2. How We Use Information

We use the collected information to:

• Personalize your BirdTab experience by showing birds relevant to your selected region
• Remember your audio preferences
• Improve performance by caching recently fetched bird data

3. Data Sharing and Transfer

BirdTab does not sell, rent, or share any user data with third parties. We only transfer data as necessary to provide the core functionality of the extension:

• Fetching bird data from our api server (https://api.birdtab.app)
• Retrieving bird images and sounds from the Macaulay Library (https://search.macaulaylibrary.org)

4. Data Security

We transmit all data using secure HTTPS connections. User preferences are stored locally on your device and synced across your Chrome instances using Chrome's secure storage API.

5. Your Choices

You can modify your preferences at any time through the BirdTab settings. To completely remove your data, you can uninstall the extension.

6. Children's Privacy

BirdTab is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on the Chrome Web Store listing.

8. Limited Use Disclosure

BirdTab's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
