Bird checklist maker

Start from every species recorded in a country, state or province, or build your own list by name. Tick birds off on your phone in the field, add counts and notes, then print it, download a PDF, share it as a link or export it for eBird. Lists are saved on your device; there is no account.

How it works

Choose a starting point: a region, one of the ready-made lists below, or an empty list. Region lists contain every species recorded there in eBird, in field guide order, so you can print the full list or trim it to the birds you expect.

In the field, open the Tick off tab. Tap a bird once to mark it seen, tap again to count it, and press and hold to add a note. The total at the top shows how many you have seen, and birds you have never ticked on any earlier list are marked New.

Back home, export the birds you ticked as a CSV in eBird’s Record Format, keep a plain-text copy, or back up every list as one file. Every bird you tick also goes into your life list, with the date you first saw it and a total for each year.

Printing

Five layouts: compact, which fits about 130 birds on a page in three columns; large print; a field survey sheet with tally boxes; a sheet with photos; and a picture hunt for children. The first three download as PDF files; the photo layouts print from your browser, where you can also save them as a PDF.

Works without signal

Once you have opened the checklist, it keeps working offline: ticking, counting and saving all happen on your phone. Add it to your home screen from the browser menu to open it like an app.
