Where Momentum is the better choice
- You want tasks on your new tab: Momentum has to-do lists, a focus mode and weather in its free version, and integrations with ClickUp, Todoist and Asana in Plus.
- You use Firefox or Safari. Momentum runs there; BirdTab is for Chrome and Edge.
- You want photos of landscapes and places rather than wildlife.
- You want something a very large number of people already use: Momentum has 2 million users on the Chrome Web Store.
Where BirdTab is the better choice
- You want nature, not a dashboard. BirdTab shows one wild bird, and everything else can be hidden.
- You want sound: each bird’s own song or call plays free, with quiet hours. Momentum’s soundscapes need Plus.
- You want to learn something. Each bird comes with its name, facts and conservation status, and you can choose the birds of your own country.
- You would rather not make an account. BirdTab needs none and its listing says it collects no personal data.
- You want it to work offline.
Switching from Momentum
Install BirdTab from the Chrome Web Store, then open a new tab. Chrome will ask which new tab to keep; choose BirdTab. You can disable Momentum in chrome://extensions rather than removing it, so your to-do lists stay there if you change your mind.
What you keep: a search box, your shortcuts, a clock and a countdown timer. What you lose: Momentum’s to-do list, focus and weather. If you rely on those, a separate to-do app does the job.
